As seen in Acts 2:42, 46-47, fellowship is a basic function in Christianity. God has called us into life changing fellowship. This means communion, close friendship, sharing things in common.

Fellowship in a true Christian sense meets a basic human need: “A Sense of belonging.” "No man is an island," the cliché states, because we need each other. According to 1 Cor. 12:21 ". . .the eye cannot say to the hand, `I have no need of you'. . ." Christians are all parts in one body. It is not just the presence of the other members that we need, but also their function. Fellowship is the bond of love and the tight connection that allows people to experience the blessings of God.

There are many important ways to share this type of fellowship. First, communion is a great expression of Christian fellowship. Second, is in a small group setting. Third, is in healthy relationships with other people. God has designed us for relationships. Relationships with people create a foundation upon which God can build some great things.

Relationships and Small Group fellowships need some key elements to become effective in building us up. One element is when we encourage one another (1 Thess. 5:11; Heb. 3:13; 10:25). When we admonish one another (Col. 3:16; Rom. 15:14), this helps foster our fellowship. To be effective, its important to "confess your sins to one another" (Jas. 5:16). Reflexively, there needs to be forgiveness. The Bible says "Forgive one another" (Eph. 4:32; Col. 3:13). Another element is that we "accept one another" (Rom. 14:1; 15:7). In our fellowship, we must serve one another (Gal. 5:13; Rom. 12:10). Also, we are to "build up one another" (1 Thess. 5:11). Lastly, "be hospitable to one another" (1 Pet. 4:9). Fellowship that is effective in all these ways will build incredible purpose and eternal refreshment into our lives.
